Universidad de Murcia

The Universidad de Murcia (UMU) is a public university in Spain with strong expertise in environmental sciences, soil science, ecology, and land management. It conducts interdisciplinary research addressing desertification, climate change impacts, and sustainable agricultural systems, contributing scientific knowledge to regional and Mediterranean environmental challenges.

Role within Nemesis

Within Nemesis, UMU leads the development of intervention strategies to combat desertification and reverse land degradation, including the identification of key obstacles, contingency planning, and adaptation pathways (WP2). In parallel, UMU coordinates the Spanish Living Lab (ES LL), facilitating stakeholder engagement and aligning pilot site activities with the overall project framework. Through its expertise in soil degradation processes and ecosystem assessment, UMU supports the design of place-based interventions tailored to each Living Lab’s context, strengthening the scientific and practical impact of Nemesis to address desertification and enhance soil resilience across Mediterranean regions.
